FAQ's

I have heard of radon, but what is radon and how does it affect me?

Radon is an element generated by the decay of uranium, which occurs naturally in the ground. This decay emits radiation that is harmful to humans. Radon is more prevalent in geographical areas where the subsoil rock is granitic.

You do not need it if your activity takes place outdoors, in open spaces.

You do need it if your company meets these three criteria:

  • You carry out your activity in enclosed spaces (e.g. inside offices or an industrial warehouse).
  • On basement or ground floors.
  • It is located in priority action areas (zone 2).

You do need it if you carry out:

  • Work in underground spaces (e.g. tunnels, wells, caves).
  • Work involving the use of natural underground spring water (e.g. spas, mineral water collection plants for bottling).

Yes, Real Decreto 1029/2022 requires the owner of the business to assess radon in the cases indicated in the previous question.

Radon is measured using specific detectors that detect radiation in the environment.

The measurement process takes between 3 and 12 months, depending on the type of activity your company carries out.
